Women's Health may earn commission from the links on this page, but we only feature products we believe in. Why Trust Us?

Us sex editors at Women’s Health know what’s up when it comes to vibrators, because we’re constantly testing the latest and greatest in sex toy tech. In fact, over the last year, 13 WH editors and contributors anonymously tested over 50 (!) vibrators in different settings—solo, during sex, even in the shower—to bring you the best recommendations.

One of our favorite types of sex toys? The clitoral vibrator. After all, for many people with vaginas, it takes more than just penetration to reach the big O. Luckily, the clitoris exists purely for pleasure: It has 15,000 nerve endings—"twice as many as the penis and the pelvic floor," says Janet Brito, PhD, a clinical psychologist and certified sex therapist based in Honolulu, Hawaii. That means it's extra sensitive to external arousal, and one of the best ways to stimulate every single one of those nerve endings is with a clit vibrator.

Like you, some of our editors enjoy feeling buzzy or rumbly sensations against the clit, while others prefer an oral sex-mimicking toy. Whatever your preferences, there's a clitoral vibrator designed to satisfy your desires (literally).

These are a few of our favorites, but read on for more detailed reviews:

Best Clitoral Vibrators

Before hitting "add to cart" on your next favorite sex toy, Brito suggests asking yourself a few questions about where and how you might want to use the toy.

What To Consider

Material And Design

It’s really important to make sure your clit vibrator is made of the right material to ensure it's body-safe. “I would suggest a silicone vibrator as they are sturdy, last a long time, and are easiest to clean," says Lyndsey Murray, an AASECT-certified sex therapist at Relationship Matters Therapy. "You can also use a water-based lubricant with it.” Other materials, such as soft rubber, are porous, meaning they can collect bacteria, causing you to get some kind of infection, even if you clean the vibrator regularly. But “high-quality, medical-grade silicone is not porous," psychologist and sex therapist Laurie Mintz, PhD, author of Becoming Cliterate, previously told Women's Health.

Additionally, you can opt for vibrators of different sizes and designs, depending on what you're looking for. For example, some clitoral vibrators are more flexible than others, allowing for more gentle sensations than a stiffer option.

Sensations

Think about your arousal preferences when it comes to what clitoral sensations you want to feel from your vibe. "Everyone is different, so for some folks, the vibrator’s pulsation may be too strong if they apply it directly to the clitoris," says Brito. "Others may prefer to use the vibrator around the clitoris rather than right on it. It's best to explore to find the best stimulation for you."

Ask yourself a few questions to help narrow down your choices: Do you enjoy more buzzy or sucking sensations? Would you prefer a mix of external (clitoral) and internal (G-spot) stimulation? Do you want a waterproof vibrator that can join you in the shower? Whatever your answers, there are plenty of sex toys that offer clit stimulation and then some.

    Charging Type

Keep in mind how the vibrator is charged and consider what is most convenient for you—batteries or a plug-in rechargeable option. Either way, “always make sure it's charged enough or has fresh batteries before using it because it's no fun at all if your vibrator dies on you before you finish,” Murray says.

    Warranty

You'll definitely want to look for a toy with a warranty, says Lisa Finn, a sex educator and product expert with retailer Babeland. That way, you know the company backs their product and is willing to replace it for you. However, not every retailer will have a satisfaction guarantee, so if you simply don't like it, you might be out of luck unless they have a return policy.

How We Chose The Best Clitoral Vibrators

Over the past year, the Women’s Health team of anonymous testers spent hours testing and reviewing over 50 clitoral vibrators to curate a list of the 10 best-selling, most popular, and top-rated options. We also consulted sex therapists Lyndsey Murray, MD, Janet Brito, PhD, and Laurie Mintz, PhD, sexologist Jess O'Reilly, PhD, OB-GYN Lyndsey Harper, MD, and sex educator Lisa Finn for this story.

    Pros

    • Trademarked sonic pulse technology
    • Designed with a battery reserve
    • Small and compact

    Cons

    • Our testers say this vibrator errs on the louder side

A Women's Health editor who has tested the Sona 3 Cruise for several months says it's their "favorite clit suction vibrator, hands down." What's so special about this toy? For starters, the SenSonic™ technology uses sonic pulses to stimulate deeper into the clitoris' erectile tissue than traditional vibrators can, offering a totally new toe-curling sensation. It's the perfect Goldilocks of vibes: While some are too intense and others aren't intense enough, "the Sona's vibrations are unmatched," our tester says. In fact, this toy makes them orgasm extremely quickly.

With 12 vibration settings—including two app-enabled modes called "Out of Control" and "Finish Me Off"—there's no shortage of O-inducing options. And switching between different vibration intensities feels easy and seamless, thanks to Lelo's SmoothRise™ technology.

And you'll never have to worry about your vibe dying mid-self-love sesh, thanks to the Cruise Control™ feature that saves battery before the big finale. "It feels like the vibrations are automatically speeding up—it's great and extremely effective," the editor says.

Beyond all those features, our reviewer also loves this vibe's "smaller and more compact size" compared to other clitoral suction toys. "It's perfect for travel but still packs a massive punch!" they say. This smart vibe also follows your physical cues—the harder you press the toy against your body, the more powerful its pulsations become. What happens next may be the most intense orgasm you'll ever have.

    Best Clitoral Vibrator For Beginners

    The Firefighter

    The Firefighter

    Pros

    • Stimulates clitoris and labia simultaneously
    • Easy to use
    • More affordable than other vibrators

    Cons

    • Some users may want more vibration/pattern settings

If you're new to the wonderful world of clitoral vibrators, this sex toy from Smile Makers was designed for you (literally). Not only does it feature a raised nub to stimulate the clit, but the flame-shaped head also vibrates across the whole labia. "I've tested a lot of clit vibrators before, and while this was most similar to a bullet with its buzzy sensations, the unique shape really made it stand out," our reviewer says. "It felt like a massage chair on my vulva."

In fact, the simultaneous clit and labia stimulation is "what makes this vibrator perfect for beginners who may not know exactly what they like," the tester adds. "It's a great way to learn how your body generally responds because you don't have to position the toy in a certain way... you can just rest the head of the toy on your vulva, and then sit back, relax, and take it all in."

They also liked how smooth the body-safe silicone felt and how easy it was to turn the vibrator on/off and change between settings, thanks to its single button. Worth noting: This toy features four vibration speeds and two pattern settings, which our tester felt was a solid amount of options for a beginner-friendly vibrator. That said, they did acknowledge that "some people might want a vibrator with more intensity options, either because the four speed options aren't intense enough or, if they really like playing around with patterns, two options feels boring to them."

They also wished this toy came with a storage bag like many others do, but considering the $65 price point (much more affordable than many other clit vibes of similar quality), that wasn't a dealbreaker.

    Best Budget-Friendly Clitoral Vibrator

    Maude Vibe

    Vibe

    Pros

    • Travel-friendly
    • Phthalate- and latex-free
    • Offers powerful vibrations

    Cons

    • Shorter battery life than other vibrators

Maude's vibe was quick to become one WH editor's go-to bullet vibrator because its unique, cone-like shape made it amazingly versatile. “The tip is perfect for pinpointed clitoral stimulation, but if you're not in the mood for that kind of precision, the entire toy vibrates, so you can press the 'longer' side against your body, too," they said.

And while this vibe is "not quite big enough to be classified as an internal vibrator," according to our tester, they did note that you *can* put it inside you, which is a plus. "Basically, I loved how versatile the size and shape was," they said.

Beyond its simple and sleek design, this beginner-friendly toy only has three speeds, so you won't be overwhelmed with a bunch of different bells and whistles. "Personally, I don't like tons of options—I find it hard to switch through all of them—so this wasn't a 'con' for me," our reviewer said. "But it might not be up everyone's alley for that reason."

Best Wand Vibrator For Clitoral Stimulation

      Magic Wand Waterproof

      On Sale
      Magic Wand Waterproof
      Credit: JULIA GARTLAND

      Pros

      • Long battery life
      • Extremely powerful vibrations
      • Tons of clitoral contact

      Cons

      • Bulkier than suction or bullet vibrators

For years, our team of testers considered the Magic Wand Rechargeable “the gold standard” of wand vibrators. The large head delivers rumbly vibrations to the whole vulva, providing “the perfect stimulation and pressure, especially if you have a clitoral hood that covers your clitoris,” says Brito.

But then, the Magic Wand Waterproof came along and set a new gold standard for clit vibrators. “Everything I loved about the original Magic Wand—the rumbly sensations, the simple design, all of it—is just as good, if not better, in the waterproof version,” WH's tester says. “I've tried a ton of waterproof vibes, and some aren't as much fun to use because the lack of lubrication can make it less comfortable, or water gets in the way of a certain part working well, but I didn't have any problems with the Magic Wand. I used it pretty much the same way I do in bed, and it felt just as amazing as it always does.”

If you like straight-up power when it comes to your vibrators, you're gonna love this one. “The Magic Wand is known for being one of the strongest wand vibrators out there, and the waterproof version is just as powerful as the original, if not more so,” our editor says. “Both wands have four vibration levels, but I never need the highest level, even with added water resistance. For me, the second vibration level gets the job done, and in record time.”

Beyond pure power, this vibrator features four vibration speeds and four patterns, so you can try out a bunch of different combos to find your ideal sensation. Plus, the two-inch-wide head makes this toy easy to use for beginners because you don't need to worry about keeping it placed specifically on your clit; it's large enough that it can easily maintain constant contact with every inch of your pleasure center, no matter how much you move around.

      Best Clitoral Vibrator For Couples

      Lelo Lily 3

      Lily 3
      Credit: Florence Sullivan

      Pros

      • Quiet yet powerful
      • Great for solo and partner play
      • Fully waterproof

      Cons

      • Can't use a silicone-based lube with it

Like many bullet vibrators, the Lily 3 is extremely intuitive to use—it only has two buttons, after all!—and offers buzzy sensations. At less than three inches long, its compact size can't be beat. But what sets this toy apart from other bullets is its wider and more curved shape that makes it "super easy to incorporate into partnered sex in multiple positions," according to one WH editor who tested the vibrator for several months.

It felt like an extension of this editor's hand, so it was perfect to use in every position during partnered sex. "Because the curved shape cups the labia, the vibration is more widespread, making it super easy to orgasm," they say. "It was an amazing addition to penetrative sex, and it didn't feel as obtrusive as bigger vibrators we've used in the past."

Plus, this small-but-mighty vibe packs a pleasureful punch with 10 vibration settings—another feature our tester loves. "This toy was surprisingly powerful compared to other bullet vibes that only have a few intensity levels—the Lily's buzzy sensations were as strong as bigger vibrators, which was impressive," they say.

Our reviewer also appreciated that this beginner-friendly clitoral vibe only had two buttons—one to increase intensity and one to decrease intensity (and, eventually, turn it off). "I didn't have to worry about fumbling around with a bunch of different options, which helped me stay in the moment and just enjoy the ride," they say. Consider this toy proof that good things do come in small packages!

Best Bullet Vibrator For Clitoral Stimulation

      We-Vibe Tango X

      Pros

      • Narrow tip provides targeted stimulation
      • Seven different vibration modes
      • Discreet size and travel lock

      Cons

      • Moving between speeds may take longer than some users would like

Believe it or not, this WH editor-loved bullet vibrator is super powerful. At just about four inches long, it features eight (!) intensity levels with seven vibration modes, including pulse, wave, cha-cha, tease, tempo, heartbeat, and classic vibration that are all very satisfactory, according to our tester. "It is very small but mighty," they say, adding that they like the narrow tip of the Tango X because it allows them to target sensation to their clit more directly "than other bullets that have a wider tip."

But that's not all—this pint-size vibe will bring you to climax in a whisper-quiet fashion, and it's waterproof so you can even enjoy it in the bathtub. Plus, you can easily stash it in your carry-on bag or purse, thanks to its compact size and travel lock.

Worth noting: Our reviewer also says the buttons are "quite intuitive" to use, although the adjustment time between speeds are a bit slower than they would like.

Best Clitoral Vibrator For Precise Stimulation

        Lelo Dot Travel

        Dot Travel
        Credit: Florence Sullivan

        Pros

        • Precise stimulation
        • Discreet and easy to hold
        • Features a travel lock

        Cons

        • Might not be best for beginners

From first glance, you can already tell the Lelo Dot Travel offers precise clitoral stimulation in a pint-sized package, but wait, there's more. This compact vibe delivers pinpointed pleasure using Infinite Loop™ technology, meaning the tip follows an elliptical pattern—shaped like an infinity sign, hence the name—instead of a traditional circle.

This one-of-a-kind tech even won over a skeptical WH editor: "I’m usually wary of clitoral vibrators that offer such precise, pinpointed stimulation, if only because repetitive circular motions can start to feel numbing. But the Dot Travel’s unique motion technology keeps you on your toes while offering consistent, customizable, toe-curling vibrations," our tester says.

Not to mention, there's a variety of vibrations to choose from, depending on your mood. "This toy offers eight vibration settings, so whether you prefer softer, fluttery caresses or deeper throbs, you’re sure to find a mode that works," they say.

Plus, this compact toy features a travel lock, so you'll never have to worry about any awkward vibes (pun intended) in the TSA line.

Best Suction Vibrator For Clitoral Stimulation

          Womanizer Premium 2

          Premium 2
          Credit: Florence Sullivan

          Pros

          • Longer battery life than most other sex toys
          • Five-year warranty
          • Easy to use

          Cons

          • Not travel-friendly

This one-of-a-kind vibrator stimulates your clit via air pressure, mimicking the feeling of oral sex. "It sits around the head of the clit and uses tiny changes in air pressure to create a wave-like sensation that combines pulsing, vibrating, and sucking into a symphony of pleasure," says Jess O'Reilly, PhD, sexologist and host of the Sex with Dr. Jess podcast.

Our tester loves that this vibrator is "super easy to use" and feels "luxurious" with "intuitive" buttons that make it easy to switch between the 14(!) different intensity levels. "Your grandma could use this vibrator and figure out how to work it," the reviewer even says.

But if you ever don't feel like playing around with all those patterns, you can opt for Autopilot 2.0 mode, which allows the toy to alternate between intensity levels automatically, keeping you on your toes. "I was definitely impressed by the setting that let it do its own thing. I've never had a toy that did that before!" our tester says. Plus, it comes with two different stimulator head sizes, so you can find the perfect fit for your body.

And while our reviewer notes that this vibe isn't ideal for travel since it's "definitely on the larger side," they love the Smart Silence Technology that makes it go quiet when not in contact with skin. "That definitely helped keep it discreet!'" they say. "This is definitely a great 'go-to' regular vibrator—certainly a bedside staple. I loved it!"

Best Rabbit Vibrator For Clitoral Stimulation

            We-Vibe Nova 2

            Nova 2

            Pros

            • Runs for up to two hours
            • Flexible
            • Stays in place

            Cons

            • Pricier than other vibrators

The We-Vibe Nova 2 has been one editor's "absolute favorite toy" for years, and a big reason is because both its internal and external arms are deeply curved. “The part that goes inside is pretty much guaranteed to hit my G-spot and the outside part never loses contact with my clit, no matter how much I move around,” our tester says. "Compared to other rabbit vibes, I also really like how the internal arm is tapered at the top. I find it painful and difficult to insert toys that are just big bulbs. This one is narrower at the tip and then gets wider."

The reviewer also appreciates "the placement of the buttons" because the Nova 2 has the + button underneath the - button when looking at the vibrator straight on. "Since you have to turn the vibrator 'upside down' essentially to use it, that makes the buttons much more intuitive when you can't actually see them," our tester says. The + and - buttons are also easy to use, they add, because you use the same buttons to turn the toy on and off as you do to increase or decrease the intensity of the vibration.

Plus, this rabbit vibrator is "a great toy for the bath," according to WH's tester, since it's "safe to submerse in water." They also note that the We-Vibe Nova 2 is a versatile toy for getting wet and wild because it "can be used even if you don't want to put anything into your vagina (especially as bath/shower water will wash away any water-based lube you may want to use). "I just use the internal part externally, and it's just as great as any bullet vibe—maybe better because the long handle makes it easy to hold onto in slippery situations," they say.

Overall, our reviewer loves "the velvety feel of the silicone," the ergonomic design of the handle, and the optional app compatibility.

            Most Versatile Clit Vibrator

            Mila Aura

            Mila Aura

            Pros

            • Multiple clitoral vibrators in one
            • Great for beginners to try out different sensations
            • Optional warming setting

            Cons

            • Battery does not last as long as other vibrators

If you want to get the most bang for your buck, this versatile vibe is like three toys in one. First of all, it features a totally new functionality called "orbital massaging," which, according to the brand, is "the first designed specifically to replicate the sensation of fingers." While other vibrators, like the Lelo Dot, offer precise, pinpointed circular motions around the clitoris, the Aura's orbital massage feature has two points of contact rotating around the clit, rather than just one. "It really does feel like two alternating fingers gently circling your hot spot," our reviewer says. "The sensation wasn't super strong, but, since I've tried plenty of vibrators that go from zero to sixty the second you turn them on, this was a nice change of pace."

But that's not all the Aura has to offer. It also features a buzzy vibration setting and a clitoral suction setting. Each of the sensation settings can be used on their own or combined with each other for a truly customizable clitoral orgasm. "It created a multi-layered pleasure experience unlike anything I've felt before," WH's tester says.

While that might seem like a lot of bells and whistles, our reviewer says it's these features that make the Mila Aura surprisingly beginner-friendly. Many people who are new to self-pleasure don't know what they like until they've tried it, and they don't want to waste money on a high-tech toy to find out. So, most beginners opt for a bullet vibrator because they tend to be the least expensive option. The problem with this approach is that bullet vibrators only offer buzzy vibration, so even though you're spending less, you're also learning less about your body. But with the Aura, "all the different sensation options teach you exactly what your body likes," our tester says, "[and] it can teach you about your sexual anatomy as well."

While our tester loved all the different sensation options, they did note that, because each feature requires its own button, they had to be careful to press the right one, which occasionally took them out of the moment. Also, the battery life of this vibrator is shorter than the others on this list, so it may need to be charged more frequently.

            Types Of Clitoral Vibrators

"The clitoris is part of the vulva," says Lyndsey Harper, MD, an OB-GYN and CEO/founder of Rosy based in Dallas, Texas. "It is made of erectile tissue just like a penis and becomes engorged with blood during sexual arousal." By definition, any toy designed to stimulate that hot spot is a clitoral vibrator, but here are some of the most common types:

            • Bullet vibrators are small, cylindrical, and travel-friendly. They typically offer buzzy sensations to the clitoris.
            • Clitoral suction vibrators stimulate the clitoris via gentle air pulsations, as opposed to buzzy or rumbly vibrations.
            • Wand vibrators are larger, handheld toys that provide rumbly sensations to the clitoris. Because they generally have a larger surface area, they offer tons of stimulation to the area surrounding the clit, too.
            • Rabbit vibrators have two arms: one that's insertable for G-spot contact, and another that provides sensations to the clitoris. The clitoral arm can be anything from two clitoral arms that resemble rabbit ears (how the toy got its name) to a small, vibrating nub to a clitoral suction head.

How To Take Care Of A Clitoral Vibrator

To ensure your investment in a new toy pays off (again and again), follow these tips to take care of it properly.

            1. Clean your vibrator.

For the health of your body (and the toy), you'll want to properly clean your toys after each use, Finn says. Even if your toy isn't going inside your body, "all of that [clitoral] tissue is still very delicate, and you want to make sure that you're taking proper care of it," she explains. Because clitoral vibrators come in tons of different sizes, shapes, styles, and materials, it's best to look up how to clean your specific toy, and whether it's waterproof.

              2. Use lubricant.

Even if you're someone who self-lubricates pretty well (congratulations, in that case), you'll still want to lube up when using toys, because they don't have any natural moisture, Finn says. If you're using a silicone toy, opt for a water-based lubricant (not silicone-based), so the toy doesn't become damaged. "Not only will it feel better, but it'll actually make your experience just more pleasurable overall," she adds.

              3. Try a condom.

For extra measure, you can always put a condom over your toy to keep it clean, "especially if you're playing with a partner that you're not fluid-bonded with and you want to share the toy," Finn says. Just make sure the condom is lubricated and you wash off the toy afterward. Again, if there's any silicone lubricant on the condom, you won't want to use it on a silicone toy.

              4. Store your vibrator properly.

First of all, make sure your sex toy is completely dry before putting it away; otherwise, mildew could grow on it, Finn says. And when it comes to storing your sex toy(s), it's best to keep it in a satin pouch to keep outside dust or dirt from getting in. If you want, you can even keep the toy in the box it came in.

              5. Unplug it when it's done charging.
