Alice Barraclough
Freelance features writer
Hello! I’m Alice – a freelance journalist writing features, interviews and columns for a range of magazines and papers such as The Telegraph, The Metro, The Guardian, The Evening Standard, Women’s Health, Stylist magazine and more.
Before I became a full-time freelance writer in August 2020, I previously worked at The Telegraph for five years. I started my journalism career after graduating with a first class English Literature and Drama degree, and studied for my NCTJ qualification while working full-time in the Special Reports team at The Telegraph. I then moved across to a Lifestyle Commissioning Editor role within The Telegraph’s award-winning branded content team, Spark.
Alongside my editor role, I also wrote for the women’s desk and health and fitness team. I’ve reviewed everything from an extreme Aveduric retreat in Sri Lanka to a female-only surf and yoga retreat in Morocco. I’ve investigated the dirty truth behind clean eating and produced an internet-breaking piece on whether the gym industry needs it’s own #MeToo movement.
From January 2020 I was the face of The Telegraph running newsletter, writing a weekly newsletter on how to train for a sub-four-hour marathon. I also wrote for the ‘Worth leaving the Sofa’ column in The Telegraph Magazine, reviewing the latest fitness classes.
My portfolio includes everything from zeitgeist pieces for online to long read features, reaction pieces, case study celebrity interviews and ghost-written articles.
I have extensive experience in commissioning, editing, proofing and writing compelling multi-platform content, across both editorial and commercial editorial departments – covering everything from fitness and wellness to fashion, beauty, food and travel.
